There are certain days that remind you exactly why you love living and working in Maryland's horse country and Saturday, April 18th was one of them!
Hubble Bisbee was proud to sponsor the Grand National Challenge Cup at the 123rd running of the Grand National Steeplechase in Butler, Maryland, and we couldn't have asked for a more memorable afternoon to celebrate one of the oldest equestrian traditions in the Mid-Atlantic.
A Race to Remember
The Grand National is the second leg of Maryland's storied Timber Triple, run over approximately 3¼ miles of timber fences through the rolling fields north of Baltimore County and this year's running delivered an exciting time. Armata Stables' Mr. Fine Threads notched his second stakes win in a row, capturing the Grand National prize in dominant fashion. Jockey Teddy Davies rode a masterful, composed race, navigating a challenging field with quick thinking and cool nerves to bring Mr. Fine Threads home a deserving winner.
The weather was simply gorgeous! It was crisp, sunny, and exactly what a spring Saturday in Baltimore County should feel like. The fields were green, the fences were flying, and the energy throughout the day was electric.
Our Tent at the Finish Line
We were thrilled to host a wonderful group of friends and family in our tent right at the finish line, where you feel every stride of the race as the horses thunder home. The picnic luncheon was a highlight in its own right with beautifully spread tables, delicious food, great wine, and even better company. There's something about watching horses clear those timber fences just a few feet away, surrounded by people you care about, that makes the whole afternoon feel like something out of another era in the best possible way.
